Terra Andina Cabernet Sauvignon – Merlot 2010
From the Label
“An expressive Ruby red lights in the glass. The bouquet will be collected by fruity ripe berries such as red currants, blackberries and plums, combined with fine notes of fresh herbs. The palate reflects the aroma and are joined by discreet add chocolate nuances. The wine has good structure with present, soft tannins and a pleasant medium finish.”
A Wine for Gifting
Today I tried a Cabernet Sauvignon - Merlot blend from a small Chilean winery called Terra Andina, I had never heard of it before and now I can't work out why. If this is their blended offering their varietals are almost certainly going to make my wine rack. A delightfully light blend with little nose but a fruity integrated wine with excellent resigual sugars. Not really a wine to serve with dinner, although it would pair well with a strong tomato base, this is a wine intended for sharing.
Would I gift this? In a heart beat, this is a wine accessible for the casual drinker which wont turn up the nose of a more seasoned drinker. Light, accessible and sweet this is a wine for sharing and intended to be drunk young. I'd happily keep a bottle on my wine rack for that unexpected guest.
Gift Wine Potential
Wonderfully sweet, a blend for drinking with friends. Nothing complex or awe inspiring but a high quality blend. It carries its alcohol well being mostly hidden behind resdual sugars. A very subtle nose that opens slowly when aerated leads to a fruity palate of ripe plums with the slightest hint of vanilla.
I'll look forward to trying a few varietals before I decide if this is gift worthy or not but I'll be keeping a bottle handy on my wine rack to share with my white wine drinking friends.
